Typical monitoring visits involve a review of your overall health, followed by a blood test and ultrasound to track the progress of fertility treatments.
We use blood tests to measure levels of key hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These tests help determine the best timing for egg retrieval in IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) or artificial insemination in IUI (Intrauterine Insemination).
Transvaginal ultrasounds allow our fertility specialist to observe follicle development, assess the thickness of the uterine lining, and ensure that ovulation is progressing as expected. This is particularly important to confirm that your ovaries are producing mature eggs.
Therefore, during your monitoring visits, we will focus on monitoring the following:
- Follicle Development: Size and number of developing follicles in your ovaries
- Hormone Levels: Levels of estrogen and progesterone in your blood
- Uterine Lining: Thickness and health of the uterine lining, essential for embryo implantation
These check-ups ensure that treatment protocols remain on track and help determine whether any medication may need to be modified. For instance, if hormone levels do respond to treatment as anticipated, the dosage of fertility medications may be increased or decreased.
Similarly, if follicle growth is slower or faster than expected, the timing of procedures like egg retrieval can be adjusted to ensure the highest chance of success.
Adjusting medications or treatment timing based on monitoring data helps ensure optimal egg development, successful embryo transfer, and improved pregnancy rates.
